BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team swept a pair of exhibition duals Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners defeated Mira Costa College 4-1 in the opener. CSUB was victorious at No. 1 (Carol Grasso and Sara Little), No. 3 (Sarrah Garrow and Ashley Prater), No. 4 (Hannah Manzanares and Madi Busler), and No. 5 (Kayla Tinker and Ally Barber).

"We started a little slow, but throughout the match, we picked up our pace and finished well," said CSUB head coach Cesar Benatti.

CSUB defeated Gavilan College 4-1 in the nightcap. The ‘Runners earns wins at No. 1 (Grasso and Little), No. 3 (Garrow and Prater), No. 4 (Manzanares and Busler), and No. 5 (Tinker and Barber).

"We applied all of the things we have been practicing and executed well against Gavilan," Benatti said. "We were able to put a lot of pressure using our serve. It was a good weekend for us."

The Roadrunners host Arizona State next Friday at 2 p.m. before welcoming CSUN and Loyola Marymount to Bakersfield next Saturday for a tri-dual that begins at 1 p.m.

The CSUB Student Recreation Center was opened in 2009 and is the center of student interaction and wellness at CSU Bakersfield. The $24 million facility houses over 75,000 square feet of both exercise equipment and other spaces for fitness, education and recreation for CSUB students, faculty and staff. In 2012, the SRC, CSUB Athletics, along with donors Steve and Lori Barnes partnered to build the sand courts, home of Roadrunner Beach Volleyball and a place for students & community members to participate in this emerging and exciting sport.
