Ortiz Earns Third Team All–America Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSUB water polo program’s all–time leading scorer Amanda Ortiz earned third–team All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) in an announcement made by the organization on Thursday morning. Last season, Ortiz garnered honorable mention All–America accolades from the ACWPC.

Ortiz led the Roadrunners to their best finish in program history, placing third at the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Tournament. She was a first–team All-WWPA performer and garned All-WWPA Tournament accolades. She led the team with 98 goals and averaged a team–best 2.72 goals per game.

In four seasons, Ortiz tallied a program record 391 goals, 149 more than the next player listed. Her 123 goals during her sophomore season is also a CSUB record. In 2006, Ortiz was honored as the WWPA’s Newcomer of the Year and earned second team accolades. Ortiz was named a first–team All–WWPA performer her final three seasons and in 2008 was honored as the conference’s Player of the Year.

CSUB finished the season with a 22–14 mark, earned a season–best ranking of 15th twice from the Collegiate Water Polo Association during the season and finished the year ranked 19th in the nation.
