PALO ALTO, Calif.—No. 2 Stanford (15-1, 2-0 MPSF) jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Cardinal defeated No. 22 CSU Bakersfield in MPSF water polo action Saturday afternoon. Ashley Paz and Kristen Jensen scored the CSUB goals. Courtney Wahlstrom made 13 saves. Stanford’s Maggie Steffens led all scorers with a career-high seven goals.

“We actually had quite a few good scoring opportunities,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. We took 22 shots, shots that would have gone in against most teams. We were able to do some really positive things on offense. I was pleased with our half-court defense. When we stopped their counter, we were able to do a pretty good job of containing them. Courtney had some very impressive blocks as well.”

The Roadrunners (12-13, 0-5 MPSF) are off until Apr. 11 when CSUB travels to No. 12 San Diego State.
