Josh Marchok put the Cardinal back in the win column in the 197-pound match by defeating Matt Williams 6-4. Nathan Butler charted a major decision at heavyweight when he defeated Dominic Balmer 10-1. Gabriell Townsell, the current Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, defeated Sean Nickell 7-4 at 125.
The ‘Runners raced to the final three victories of the night. Carlos Herrera took home a major at 133 when he beat Peter Russo 9-1. Russell Rohlfing posted a 10-4 victory in the 141-pound bout against Brandon Kier before Coleman Hammond concluded the dual with a major (12-2) against Walker Dempsey at 149 pounds.
“A couple guys wrestled better than they did against West Virginia, but a couple of the guys struggled,” said CSUB head coach Manny Rivera. “Across the board, we looked flat and didn’t have a lot of energy. We should have been in position to win the dual. When we do not wrestle our best, we are not going to be there.
The Roadrunners return to the mats Jan. 19 at Utah Valley (2-2) for a 7 p.m. (MT) start.
