BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The winter has been busy for CSU Bakersfield’s swimming and diving teams and the Roadrunners are prepared to continue their streak of four straight weekends with home meets. On Saturday, Jan. 14, the ‘Runner men and women will welcome UNLV to the Hillman Aquatic Center in Bakersfield for a dual meet.

“This could be a fun meet for both the men and the women,” said Chris Hansen, CSUB’s Director of Swimming. “The toughest team at the moment will win. UNLV has strengths on us as we do on them. Our divers are going to help us out a lot on the boards as will our veterans, Paola Hernandez and Lovre Soric, in the swim events. The men need to prove themselves as a strong WAC team. I'm excited to see how this meet goes down.”

The Roadrunners faced off in another home meet last weekend as the women dominated Loyola Marymount but both CSUB’s men’s and women’s teams fell against NCAA Division II power UC San Diego.

CSUB’s women are led by seniors Carlee Burks and Hernandez. Burks, a Bakersfield native, nearly broke the school 1-meter record en route to a pair of victories last weekend. She was also named Western Athletic Conference Diver of the Week, the 12th time in her career, for her efforts. Hernandez was unstoppable last weekend, winning all three individual events she swam in and leading her relay squad to a victory as well.

The ’Runner men will look to their divers to earn big points as well on Saturday. Soric, a senior, will need to excel in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events, his specialties, in order for the ‘Runners to keep pace with UNLV.

Saturday’s dual meet begins at 10 a.m. at the Hillman Aquatic Center. Admission to the meet as well as parking on game days are free for ‘Runner fans. Results and a full recap will be posted Saturday afternoon. Fans who cannot make it to the event can download the Meet Mobile app to their phones and watch live results.
