BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's swimming and diving team has announced the addition of Gabi Liedy to the squad. Liedy will transfer to CSUB from the University of North Dakota, which announced the termination of its swimming and diving program on Mar. 29, and will have one year of eligibility remaining to compete with the Roadrunners.

“We are excited to have Gabi join our ‘Runner family,” said Chris Hansen, CSUB's Director of Swimming. “She was put in a tough situation with UND dropping their program just before her senior year. As sad as a situation as that is, I am truly happy she came on a trip and picked CSUB to finish her career. Gabi has put the finishing touch on an already great new class next year. The team is pumped!”

Hansen went on to talk about where Liedy will fit in with the ‘Runner swimmers: “Gabi is coming in with our team's fastest 500 free and 1650 free and in the top two in the 50 free and 200 back. We also talked about swimming the 400 IM. Her time in the 500 free would put her third on the all-time list right behind alumnae Michaela Paige and Delise Batiza.”

Liedy is a native of Highlands Ranch, Colo. and graduated from Highlands Ranch High School in 2014. During her three seasons at UND, she enjoyed great success and will leave with the school record in the mile (16:58.24) and the 500 free (4:54.29).

The incoming senior also ranks in the UND Top 10 all-time in the 200 free (fifth) and 1000 free (second) and helped the 800 free relay team break the school record at this year's Western Athletic Conference Championships. Liedy will make an immediate impact on CSUB's squad and will join the team for her final season this fall.
