ELK GROVE, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s men’s golf team wrapped up the third and final round of the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday as the top three Roadrunners all posted similar 54-hole scores.
On the front nine of the third round, junior Nathan Green was just three-over-par thanks to a birdie on the seventh. Freshman Warren Miller was also three-over with three bogies on the first nine holes. Freshman Dominick Hoover and junior Garry Cai were at +7 for the ‘Runners while senior Izzad Ibrahim was at +8.
Miller, a native of Bakersfield, went on to para total of 13 holes and lead CSUB with a score of 77 (+5) in the final round of play. Green, who has led CSUB in scoring average all season, came in just two strokes behind Miller on Tuesday with a 79. The native of Green River, Wyo. also led the ‘Runners on the tournament with a 54-hole tournament score of 236 (+20), good enough to tie for 48th overall among 69 student-athletes.
After posting the best score of the day for CSUB, Miller came in just one stroke behind Green with a two-day total of 237 strokes. Hoover was just two strokes back at 239 as CSUB’s top three scorers came into the clubhouse in a tight bunch.
On Tuesday, Cai rounded out the scoring four with an 84 while Ibrahim was just one stroke back. Cai put together the fourth-best tournament for CSUB, tying his season-best three-round score of 248. Ibrahim’s 82 in the first round was his only card that counted towards CSUB’s score this tournament as the senior finished at 254.
Fellow Western Athletic Conference member Grand Canyon dominated the field, taking a team victory by 12 strokes (862). GCU’s Billy Comeaux won the individual title with a three-round score of 212.
The Roadrunners will have next week off before returning to action at the GCU Invitational, Mar. 17-18. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place in Phoenix, Ariz. at Grand Canyon Golf Course.
