BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- CSU Bakersfield’s softball team is getting ready to hit the road this weekend to play sets of games against both Long Beach State and Utah. The mini tournament is set to take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18. The ‘Runners will play a total of four games in Long Beach.

"We have a tough weekend ahead of us with two quality opponents in Utah and Long Beach State," said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, Head Coach of the 'Runners. "We have some things we have to adjust about our team, but I feel that we will continue to grow as a group. I like how we finished the weekend in Las Vegas and my hope is that we build off of it."

CSUB returned home from the Sporto Kick Off Classic in Las Vegas this past weekend. With the help of pitcher Summer Evans, the ‘Runners gained their first win of the season against UNLV. The ‘Runners (1-4) will take the momentum of strong play as they head into Long Beach this weekend to play a pair of doubleheaders against Utah and LBSU.

The 49ers are coming into the weekend off of a 9-1 loss at home against No. 8 Washington. Christina Clermont leads the LBSU pitching staff with a 1.94 ERA, a 2-1 record, and 18.0 innings pitched.

Utah enters the weekend sitting at No. 15/16 in the NCAA softball Top 25 polls and is ranked third in the nation, averaging 9.4 runs per contest. Senior Anissa Urtez leads the Utes with a .667 batting average after going 10-for-15 last week.

The ‘Runners will begin the weekend Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Long Beach State and continue at 2 p.m. with a game against Utah. They will close out play on Saturday, beginning with the Utes at 9 a.m. and CSUB’s final game against the 49ers at 2 p.m.
