'Runners Improve Marks at Pomona Pitzer Invitational

POMONA, Calif. - The CSUB track and field teams competed at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational Saturday in Pomona, Calif. The Roadrunners came away from the meet with 12 season-best performances. Other teams in attendance Saturday included USC, UNLV, New Mexico, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Pepperdine and Southern Utah.

The 'Runners took three of the top five places in the men's hammer throw led by Steve Trojanowski who placed second with a season-best toss of 190-11. Derek Johnson placed fourth (174-11) and Evan Wahl was fifth (171-00). Johnson also placed second in the discus with a throw of 164-04. Ryan Nichols placed second in the long jump (22-05.75) and ran a personal-best of 10.83 in the 100 meter dash to take fifth. In the 1,500 meters, Edward Lee lowered his season-best time by over three seconds to 4:03.52. Brandon Washington improved his 400 meter hurdle mark to 59.34.

CSUB alum Chris Figures won the shot put competition by over seven feet with a toss of 62-05.00.

Princess Watts had two season-best performances on Saturday, improving her 200 meter (27.57) and her 400 meter times (1:00.39). In the 800 meters, Ashley Nolasco had a season-low time of 2:24.80 while Katherine Patrick (5:02.18), Christa McCann (5:05.30) and Stephanie Estrada (5:24.38) all lowered their times in the 1,500 meters. Judith Mata improved her 5,000 meter time (5:24.38) and Isabella Kasselstrand had a pr in the hammer throw (113-00).

"We are continuing to improve each and every week," Head Coach Alan Collatz said. "Our hope is that everyone is able to put it all together by the end of the season, if not before then. We had some very good performances in the hammer throw today and the improving marks is encouraging."

The 'Runners will head to Westwood, Calif., next weekend for the JJK Invitational.
