BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s women’s indoor track and field team is headed back to Flagstaff, Ariz. this weekend for its second indoor meet of the season. The Roadrunners are prepared to tackle Northern Arizona’s Mountain T’s Invitational, Feb. 3-4.

“We are led by a good mix of veteran student-athletes and freshmen with a bright future ahead,” said CSUB’s Director of Track and Field, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. “We embark on our second indoor meet of the season and the final meet before the WAC Indoor Championships at the end of the month. I expect that we will build on some of the success we’ve had so far.”

The ‘Runners will be led into action by redshirt senior Tricia Cervantes. CSUB’s team captain is in her final season of eligibility for indoor track and is on a quest for a fifth All-Conference honor in the multi events. Mansur-Wentworth will have her team’s leader compete in the high jump and long jump on Friday before wrapping up the meet with the 60m hurdles on Saturday.

Freshman Julianne Finch, who already put her name in the CSUB record books with a school-best in the indoor pole vault two weeks ago, will look to improve on her mark on Friday. The Bakersfield native is currently ranked second in the WAC in the pole vault.

Competing in her first indoor event of the season, junior Angel Valdez will race in the 3000m. The native of Bakersfield was poised to tackle the event in the season opener two weeks ago, but sat out due to foot pain and is ready to go this weekend.

Mansur-Wentworth will send four freshmen to the Mountain T’s Invite who have already excelled for the ‘Runners: “Falon Wilson, who had a good showing in the 60m dash two weeks ago, will compete in that event again as well as the 60m hurdles. Paradise Pelzer will race the mile for the first time. Jazmine Ramey and Mariah LeSure will compete in the 60m and 200m dashes, looking to improve their season openers.”

Bakersfield’s coach also commented that others to watch include sophomore Susannah Vera in the high jump and freshman Irma Torres, who set a personal best in the 3000m in CSUB's last meet.

Friday’s competition will open with the multi events on Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. (MST). The field events will take over Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., beginning with the pole vault. At 6 p.m., the track will open with the women’s mile. Saturday’s field events will start at 10 a.m. with the track events kicking off half an hour later.
