LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Roadrunner track and field team opened up the Cal State LA Twilight Open on Wednesday as three CSU Bakersfield throwers took part in a pair of events.
On the women’s side, junior Micaiah Lugo finished third in the hammer throw with a best distance of 152-00. The throw was the second-best of the season for the native of Oxnard, Calif.
For the ‘Runner men, redshirt senior Emmett Wirtz finished sixth in the hammer throw with a best throw of 151-07, his third-best of the year. Sophomore Luis Mendez was eighth in the discus with a mark of 126-06, his third-best of the season. Mendez went on to finish eighth in the hammer with another third-best throw of the year (127-07).
The rest of CSU Bakersfield’s track and field team will join the three ‘Runners from Wednesday’s action for a full slate of events on Thursday.
