BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s student-athletes regularly live up to both the academic and athletic components of their titles. This week, a pair from the Roadrunner track and field teams are going above and beyond to serve their school. Senior Justin McKinley and freshman Alejandra Frausto both ran in the Associated Students, Inc. elections and earned spots as student government officials for the 2017-18 academic year.
“I am so proud of these two student-athletes,” said Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, CSUB’s Director of Track and Field. “Both AJ and Justin embody the term student-athlete. They are dedicated to their sport, their team, and their academics as well as the CSUB community. They are truly ambassadors for this university.
CSUB’s track coach went on to describe why she believes the pair of ‘Runners will succeed at their newly-elected positions: “I am sure that AJ and Justin will bring the same focus, dedication, and enthusiasm to these positions as they do to everything else they do. They are truly engaged in the CSUB community. They are terrific role models and bring so much of their character and personality to what they do every day. This is a proud day for the program! I know they will both do a fantastic job for ASI.”
Frausto, a freshman from Bakersfield, earned 100% approval from the CSUB student voters and was elected the school’s Director of Student-Athlete Relations. McKinley, a native of Murrieta, Calif., ran away with over 71% of the votes and was named Vice President of Finance.
The newly-appointed ‘Runners and the rest of their team will compete Wednesday and Thursday, Apr. 13-14, at the Cal State LA Invitational as the track and field season continues in full swing.
