BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The time has come for CSU Bakersfield’s women’s soccer team to enter Western Athletic Conference play. The Roadrunners will travel to Orem, Utah to face Utah Valley on Friday, Oct. 7, before returning home to host Seattle U on Sunday, Oct. 9.

“There are no easy games in conference play and we are excited to begin this weekend,” said Gary Curneen, CSUB’s head coach. “With our non-conference schedule, we feel that we are battle-hardened and have got some great experience in key moments. For us, the keys will be aggression and focus on both sides of the ball. We will make sure we are physically and mentally ready for a big weekend, and look forward to challenging ourselves against two great teams.”

Utah Valley (6-4-1) will welcome CSUB to Orem for the ninth meeting in the all-time series. The Wolverines hold a 7-1 advantage and have won all but the first-ever meeting in 2008. A year ago, the ‘Runners played UVU on back-to-back weekends, falling by identical 3-2 scores both home and away.

Seattle U entered the week with a record of 5-5-1 record and has won three of its last four matches. The Redhawks have haunted the ‘Runners in the two programs’ histories, which dates back to 2001, with Seattle U boasting a perfect 17-0 record all-time against CSUB. Last year, CSUB fell to the Redhawks three times, including a close match in the WAC Tournament.

The ‘Runners (4-7-1) are riding momentum into the week after winning a double-overtime thriller on the road against UC Riverside. CSUB has won two of its last three matches, entering WAC play with a bit of momentum. The ‘Runners will continue to rely on junior Maja Green to anchor the backline. The native of Sweden is the only woman in the WAC to play every minute for her time this season. Sophomore Sabrina Delgado has packed the offensive punch for the ‘Runners with a team-high six goals on the year.

Friday’s match in Orem is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (MT) start while kickoff on Sunday in Bakersfield is set for 1 p.m. at the Main Soccer Field.
