BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Only one week remains in non-conference play for CSU Bakersfield’s women’s soccer team. This weekend, the Roadrunners will hit the road to face Grand Canyon in a non-conference matchup on Friday, Sept. 23, and UC Riverside on Sunday, Sept. 25.

“This is the last weekend of non-conference play for us and I think it's pretty consistent with our level of opponents from opening weekend,” said Gary Curneen, Head Coach of the ‘Runners. “Both Grand Canyon and UC Riverside are very good teams, who will challenge us to be at our best. Coming off the win against Idaho, we hope to carry forward a little confidence in front of goal, but we also cannot forget the hard work and intensity that went into that result. If we can keep producing performances like that and UNLV, we won't be too far away this weekend.”

CSUB and GCU will meet for the 20th time in the series history on Friday. CSUB holds an 11-5-3 advantage in the series, but is winless against the ‘Lopes in each of the last seven meetings. In that span, the ‘Runners have gone 0-4-3 against GCU. A year ago, the ‘Runners and ‘Lopes played to a pair of draws. CSUB tied Grand Canyon 1-1 at home in September before playing to a scoreless draw on Halloween in Phoenix.

UC Riverside owns a 5-1 series lead over CSUB and has won the last four matchups. The ‘Runners last won against UCR in 2009, claiming a narrow, 1-0 victory at home. In 2015, the Highlanders came to Bakersfield and took a 3-0 victory over the ‘Runners.

Friday night’s game against GCU is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and will be stream live via GCU.TV. The Roadrunners are scheduled to kick off against UC Riverside at 6 p.m. in Southern California. Links to the live stream and live stats for both games can be found on the CSUB women’s soccer schedule page.
