BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – One day after being given his contract extension to continue on as the leader of CSU Bakersfield’s women’s soccer program, Head Coach Gary Curneen announced that he would promote Clifton Bush from Assistant Coach to Associate Head Coach.
“We are excited to elevate Clifton to Associate Head Coach,” said Curneen. “He has made a huge impact on our program and has done an excellent job over the past three years on a number of levels.”
Curneen went on to talk about Bush’s greatest accomplishments in his time at CSUB: “From the recruiting side, he has helped our program attract some of the most exciting, young talent around. His insight and knowledge of organizational culture has allowed us to implement effective support systems where our players can continually develop and grow. He has also brought new ideas on the tactical and training side of the game that have helped elevate performances, both individually and collectively. Clifton has been a very positive force on our staff and we look forward to continued growth as he takes this position.”
Bush has been Curneen’s right-hand man since the pair came to Bakersfield three years ago. As the team’s assistant coach, Bush has aided the ‘Runners to major accomplishments, including breaking several CSUB Division I offensive records and posting a CSUB DI-best eight wins this past season. Bush was also instrumental in bringing in CSUB’s five newest Roadrunners, who were signed to National Letters of Intent last week.
“I am deeply honored and excited to be recognized in this way,” Bush said. “I am privileged to work with an amazing group of student-athletes and this is a testament to their character, hard work, and trust. This is a tremendous opportunity and I am thankful to Cindy Goodman, Ziggy Siegfried, and the rest of the Administration for their support. I would especially like to thank Gary for trusting me with this role. His leadership and friendship has been instrumental in my coaching development.”
