Greg McCall returns to the CSUB bench for his third season as an assistant coach for 2009–10. Longtime Bakersfield fans will remember McCall as both a player and an assistant coach for the ’Runner men’s teams of the early and mid 1990s.

McCall previously spent 10 seasons as the head coach at Taft College. McCall restarted the Cougar women’s basketball program in 1998. By 2003, Taft was a 19–win team and a California State Junior College Tournament participant.

McCall cut his coaching teeth under Head Coach Pat Douglass at CSUB. He was a member of the coaching staff on Bakersfield’s 1997 NCAA championship team.

As a player under Douglass, McCall averaged 10.6 points per game and was team captain for the 1991 ’Runner squad that won the CCAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four.

McCall and his wife Sonya reside in Bakersfield. McCall’s oldest daughter, Dewanna, was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the first round of the 2009 WNBA draft with the fifth overall pick. Dewanna was a standout forward for Auburn University from 2006–09.

The McCall’s have two young children: Erica and Justin.
