BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- As one streak ends, another thrives.

Following CSUB’s 72-53 win over NM State Thursday night snapping the Aggies’ 20-game winning streak, the CSUB Roadrunners (16-7, 8-1 WAC) extended their home-winning streak to 14 games at the Icardo Center, the longest in the Division I history of the program. They will look for an unprecedented 15th win as they host UT Rio Grande Valley (10-16, 2-7 WAC) Saturday night at the Icardo Center.

The Roadrunners used stellar defense and a blitzing-balanced offensive attack to upend the Aggies on Thursday night to keep their bid for a regular-season WAC championship alive. Now the Roadrunner must continue that momentum on Saturday night as the Vaqueros come to Bakersfield coming off four-straight conference losses including a 76-57 loss Thursday night at Grand Canyon.

Redshirt guard Nick Dixon led UTRGV with 23 points in the loss. Dixon leads the Vaqueros with 19 ppg, sophomore Antonio Green chips in 17 per contest for UTRGV who is just 1-12 this season on the road. CSUB captured the first meeting between the two teams on January 12th with an 88-81 win in Edinburg, Texas. Senior forward Matt Smith led CSUB with 23 points in that win while fellow senior Jaylin Airington added 18 for the Roadrunners.

Bakersfield enters Saturday night’s game being led by Airington’s 15 ppg while redshirt-sophomore forward Damiyne Durham is adding 13 per contest following a 16-point performance Thursday night against NM State. Dedrick Basile is adding 12 points while Smith chips in 11 for the Roadrunners who continue to be one of the best defenses in the nation allowing just 63.6 ppg. CSUB also allows opponents to shoot just 38.4% from the field, the 9th-lowest total in the NCAA.

Saturday’s game also features the TNT Dunk Squad as part of halftime entertainment. The high-flying trampoline-dunk group is a fan-favorite and they’ll be making their Icardo Center debut on Saturday. Tickets are available by calling 654-BLUE.

The game will be available on Newstalk 1180/96.1 FM KERN and streamed live via the Roadrunner Sports Network at Youtube.com/csubathletics.
