BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After a long road trip in which the CSU Bakersfield men’s basketball team split a pair of Western Athletic Conference games, the Roadrunners are back home and are preparing to host Utah Valley this Saturday.

“Utah Valley’s coach does a great job,” said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the ‘Runners. “They have great size across their team and try and figure out ways to take advantage of you. It will be a contrast of styles because we really want to play great defense and pressure them and they really want to play 'pass and shoot'. All of our guys are going to have to be on point as far as defense goes.”

The ‘Runners (11-7, 2-1 WAC) enter the week on the heels of a WAC road trip split. CSUB traveled to Edinburg, Texas and downed UT Rio Grande Valley by a score of 88-81. The ‘Runners then flew to Las Cruces, N.M. for a rematch of the WAC Tournament finals from a year ago. This time around, the Aggies bested CSUB 63-58 in a tight, defensive battle.

Utah Valley will come to Bakersfield with a 9-9 overall record and a 1-2 record in WAC play. The Wolverines started their conference slate with a pair of losses but got their first WAC win on Jan. 14. Saturday’s victory came at home in an 86-76 triumph over UMKC. Four Wolverines scored in double digits while junior guard Brandon Randolph led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds.

This season, sophomore guard Conner Toolson leads the team with an average of 14.3 points per game while forward Isaac Neilson averages a double-double (11.9 points, 10.0 rebounds). UVU averages 79.4 points per game, but allows 76.0 to its opponents.

In the all-time series, the ‘Runners own a 9-4 lead over UVU. CSUB has won the last three meetings and four of the last five. A year ago, the ‘Runners defeated the Wolverines 78-74 in Orem, Utah before taking a convincing, 91-69 win in Bakersfield.

Saturday’s game is expected to be CSUB’s third sellout of the season. A large group of fans will be coming for the Roadrunners' "Ag Night" promotion. The game will be televised live via the American Sports Network and a full list of TV channels that will air the game can be found in the PDF above.
