BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The CSUB Roadrunners (1-1) open a two-game home stand Saturday night as they host UC Santa Barbara (0-2) at the Icardo Center at 7 P.M.

The Roadrunners are coming off a 78-66 loss to No. 10 Arizona in Tucson Tuesday night. The Wildcats survived a wild scare from the Roadrunners when CSUB nearly-erased a 21-point second-half deficit by going on a 17-0 run and holding Arizona scoreless for over five minutes. In the end the Wildcats made one final push to hold off the pesky Roadrunners squad.

UC Santa Barbara meanwhile is off to an 0-2 start after dropping a pair of home games, most recently 75-63 to the University of San Francisco. The Gauchos also dropped their home opener on Nov. 12 to 74-60 to Omaha. Preseason All-Big West selection Gabe Vincent has led the Gauchos in both games, he scored 12 against Omaha before scoring 23 on 8-21 shooting and 4-13 from three-point range against San Francisco. He leads the Gauchos with 17.5 ppg while shooting 32 percent from the field.

Despite being located within three hours of each other, the Roadrunners and Gauchos have never previously met in men’s basketball.

The Roadrunners enter Saturday’s game being led by redshirt senior forward Jaylin Airington who is averaging 23 ppg through the first two contests. Airington scored 31 against Arizona where he was 10-25 from the field. That was the second-highest single-game effort in CSUB’s Division I history following 33 scored by Issiah Grayson against NM State in 2014. Airington’s 25 field goal attempts were also a CSUB Division I record.

CSUB has shot the ball well through the first two games from the field (54%) which ranks 21st out of 351 NCAA Division I teams. CSUB is also shooting 45% from three-point range while Airington’s 23 ppg is currently the 45th-highest in the NCAA.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 P.M. and one lucky fan will win $500 from Mission Bank. Tickets are available at or by calling 654-BLUE. The game will be broadcast live on Newstalk 1180 & 96.1 FM KERN with live video available via the Roadrunner Sports Network at

The Roadrunners next home game is Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they host Fresno State at the Icardo Center. Tickets are nearly sold out for that game and fans are encouraged to purchase in advance.
