BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s men’s basketball team will hit the road again and seek a Western Athletic Conference victory in the Windy City. The Roadrunners will face Chicago State on Thursday, Jan. 26, and will fight for a win in the Jones Convocation Center.

“Coach Dildy has done a really good job [at Chicago State],” said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the ‘Runners. “They have a little bit more experience and they are playing a good brand of basketball. We have got to be prepared, ready to play, and on top of our game. Our veterans won’t allow us to go in there and feel like we can just show up and win the game.”

The ‘Runners (12-7, 3-1 WAC) enter the week on a newly-started win streak. CSUB played host to Utah Valley on Saturday, Jan. 21, and earned a hard-fought victory over the Wolverines. The ‘Runners led for all but 18 seconds, but a late surge by UVU made the final minutes interesting. CSUB's defense buckled down and the 'Runners held on for the 68-65 win to extend its win streak at the Icardo Center to 13 games.

Chicago State will welcome CSUB to Illinois with a 6-16 overall record and a 1-4 record in WAC play. The Cougars went 1-1 last week with a 77-57, non-conference victory over Roosevelt and an 85-77 loss on the road against UT Rio Grande Valley. Fred Sims, Jr. scored a team-high 23 points against UTRGV on 10-of-20 shooting and had 12 rebounds for the double-double while Clemmye Owens V added 21 points.

This season, Sims, Jr. leads Chicago State with an average of 19 points per game and has scored almost 21 a contest in WAC games. Trayvon Palmer has averaged a double-double in WAC games with 14 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Cougars.

In the all-time series, the ‘Runners own a 6-2 lead over Chicago State. Bakersfield has won the last six meetings including all three games a year ago. In 2015-16, CSUB won 67-56 in Chicago, then earned a 71-48 win in Bakersfield before knocking the Cougars out of the WAC Tournament with a 79-57, first-round victory.

Thursday’s game is set for a 7:05 p.m. (CT) tip off in Chicago. There will be no live stream available, but Roadrunner fans can tune in to Newstalk 1180 AM/96.1 FM KERN for play-by-play from the Jones Convocation Center. The radio feed is also available on smart phones via the Tune In app.
