BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- CSUB senior libero Kayla Williamson (Stockdale HS) earned NCAA Division I Volleyball Independent Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 8. It marks the fifth time overall that Williamson has been named Independent Player of the Week this season and the fourth time she has been Defensive Player of the Week.

Williamson continued her dominant back row play, posting 49 digs in two matches last week. She opened the week with a 25–dig, five–service ace effort against Seattle University. She followed that with 24 digs in a four–set match at UC Riverside.

Williamson now has 603 digs in 2009, becoming just the third Roadrunner ever to reach the 600–dig mark in a season. She needs 52 digs in her final four matches to break Mystie McNaughton’s season record of 654 set in 2008.

She currently ranks No. 7 all NCAA Division I players by averaging 5.58 digs per set. That mark tops all Division I Independent players, while her 603 total digs are 124 more than her nearest pursuer.

Also making a statistical splash at the national level is sophomore middle blocker Alysia Baker (Vista/Tri–City Christian HS), who is up to No. 18 nationally at 0.45 aces per set. Sophomore middle blocker Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale HS) in No. 28 on that list at 0.43 aces per set.

As a team, CSUB has moved all the way up to the No. 5 spot among NCAA Division I schools a 1.95 aces per set.

Several other Roadrunners rank among the Division I Independent leaders. Senior setter Barbie Unfried (Bakersfield HS) tops the charts in assists (790) and aps (8.88) while holding the No. 7 spot in aces per set (0.35). She continues to rank third in hitting percentage (.281). She is the only setter ranked on that list.

With 37 kills last week, DeGeare continues to lead in kills per set (3.55) while regaining her lead in kills (387). She ranks second in points (446.5) and aces (46) and fifth in attack percentage (.234).

Baker took over the top spot in hitting percentage (.294). She ranks seventh in both kills (257) and points (336.0).

CSUB plays just one match this week, traveling to America’s Finest City to take on San Diego State Sunday afternoon. The ’Runner return home to host Fresno State Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
