BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the Roadrunners begin its fourth WAC this week when the Roadrunners travel to Las Cruces, N.M.

Grasso earned WAC Player of the Year honors after leading the league in kills (4.47), service aces (0.87) and points (5.59) and ranking eighth in digs (3.06) in WAC play. She also set the all-time WAC records for service aces (46) and service aces per set in a single season for WAC matches only and posted double-doubles in eight of 14 WAC matches. She was named WAC Player of the Week twice during the season.

Entering the week of Nov. 14, Grasso is second in Division I in aces per set (0.64), fifth in service aces (54), 23rd in points per set (4.93), 47th in kills per set (4.04), 54th in attacks per set (10.73), 79th in points (414), and 121st in total kills (339). Her 54 service aces are the third most by a CSUB player at the Division I level. Grasso reset her career high with 27 kills against Utah Valley Nov. 12, the third most in a five-set match by a CSUB player at the Division I player.

Sydney Haynes earned second team All-Conference honors. Haynes was named to the All-Tournament team at the Black Knights Invitational and the UCSB Thunderdome Classic. She was second on team in kills (206, 2.64) and third in blocks (46, 0.59 bpg).

The tournament begins Thursday night when the Roadrunners (13-14, 10-4 WAC) as the third seed, face the sixth seed Seattle U (13-14, 6-8 WAC) at 5 p.m. (MT). The winner of the CSUB-SU match will play the second seed, Utah Valley (15-13, 10-4 WAC) on Friday at 5 p.m.

On the other side of the bracket, the fourth seed, UMKC (15-12, 8-6 WAC) will take on the fifth seed, UT Rio Grande Valley (18-13, 7-7 WAC) Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The winner of the UMKC-UTRGV match will play the No. 1 seed, NM State (23-6, 13-1 WAC) in the other Friday semifinal at 7:30 p.m. (MT). The semifinal winners will play in the finals on Saturday at 7 p.m. (MT). All of the matches will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.

The Roadrunners have advanced to the finals of the previous three WAC Tournaments in which they competed including 2014 in which CSUB defeated Seattle U to advance the NCAA Tournament. CSUB’s all-time WAC Tournament record is 5-2.
