BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield baseball team hosts its first Western Athletic Conference series this weekend when the Roadrunners welcome UT Rio Grande Valley to Hardt Field.
Action is set for Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. with Sunday’s finale starting at 12 p.m. On Friday and Sunday, coverage is available on 1230 AM/98.1 FM ESPN and on the Roadrunner Sports Network (via youtube.com). Corey Costelloe’s pre-game show on the radio beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch. Saturday’s game will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
UTRGV dropped a pair of games at No. 3 TCU Tuesday and Wednesday by a combined score of 28-4. The Vaqueros fell to 16-13 overall and like the ‘Runners are 0-3 in WAC play. Jose Garcia is tied for seventh in the WAC in hitting (.378) with CSUB’s Max Carter. Garcia leads the conference in runs (28) and is second in hits (37). Garcia is third in doubles (10) and home runs (4).
CSUB leads the all-time series against UTRGV 6-3. The Roadrunners took two of three from the Vaqueros last season in Edinburg. Righty Carter Johnson (4-2) is scheduled to face Carter (3-1) on Friday. Lefty Josh Witherspoon (0-2) is set to start on Saturday for UTRGV while right hander Andrew Garcia (2-1) will go for the Vaqueros on Sunday. CSUB has not named starters for Saturday and Sunday’s games.
The Roadrunners (11-9) dropped their fourth in a row Wednesday night when CSUB lost 10-7 at Loyola Marymount. Mark Pena was 3-for-5 with three RBI’s to lead the ‘Runners.
