BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield wrestling continues an early season home stand Friday night when the Roadrunners host No. 10/14 Rutgers and San Francisco State.

The tri-dual begins at 4 p.m. when CSUB (1-0) faces San Francisco State. The middle dual will be the Gators taking on Rutgers before the night concludes at 7:30 p.m. when the ‘Runners face the Scarlet Knights.

The Division II Gators dropped a pair of duals to Division I opponents last weekend to begin the 2016-17 campaign. San Francisco State led Cal Poly 7-0 after two matches before losing the next eight to fall 36-7 to the Mustangs before losing 39-7 to Indiana. Heavyweight Sam Alnassiri is ranked fifth in the preseason poll.

The Scarlet Knights open the 2016-17 dual season at CSUB Friday night. Five Rutgers wrestlers are ranked led by Anthony Ashnault and Richie Lewis. Both competed in the Nov. 5 NWCA All-Star Classic

Ashnault, ranked fourth at 141 pounds, won the main event of the night, 7-6 in overtime agianst the 2016 141-pound national runner-up, Bryce Meredith of Wyoming. Lewis, who is No. 6 at 157 pounds, won by a 2-0 score against Missouri’s No. 11-ranked Joey Lavallee in a showcase match. As a team, Rutgers is ranked 10th in the USA Today/NWCA Top 25 and 14th in the Intermat Top 25.

CSU Bakersfield came from behind to defeat California Baptist 29-12 in the 2016-17 wrestling season opener for the Roadrunners last Saturday night. Cal Baptist won three of the first four matches of the night before the ‘Runners took the final six matches of the evening, highlighted by a Coleman Hammond pin at 149 pounds. Hammond remains the lone CSUB wrestler ranked (in three different polls) at 149 pounds.
