BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Tyler Iwamura (R-Jr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christan HS) lost in the consolation round of 16 on day two of the 49th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.

Iwamura was awarded the 10th seed at 125 pounds and opened the meet with a 5-4 victory over Clarion's Trye HIcks.  In the round of 16, Iwamura faced the sixth seed, Joe Roth of Central Michigan.  Roth, who is 18th in the current rankings, defeated Iwamura 18-6.

In Iwamura's first consolation match, he pinned Luther College's Daniel Mendoza with 15 seconds remaining in the match. Round three of the consolation bracket saw Iwamura take on Rider College's Chuck Zeisloff. Iwamura pinned Zeisloff to advance to the consolation round of 16 where he will face the No. 1 seed, Illinois' Jesse Delgado. Delgado, who entered the tournament ranked No. 6 in Division I at 125, defeated Iwamura 11-7.

Adam Fierro (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) was matched up with the No. 1 seed, Steve Fitterly, in the opening round of the 165-pound bracket. Fitterly pinned Fierro at the 3:29 mark of their match. In the consolation bracket, Fierro faced Mike Ottinger of Central Michigan and was defeated by the Chippawas' competitor 3-2.

Freshman Bryce Hammond (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), who is redshirting this season, wrestled unattached at 174 pounds. Hammond was awarded the No. 11 seed and opened the tournament by facing Lehigh's Kevin Bailey. Hammond defeated Bailey 10-8 which created a match between Hammond and the sixth seed, Jimmy Sheptock of Maryland. Sheptock handed Hammond a 9-0 defeat which dropped Hammond into the consolation bracket where he faced Virginia Tech's Chris Moon. Moon defeated Hammond 8-2.

Jose Mendoza (R-So., Selma, Calif., Selma HS) began his tournament stay by facing the No. 1 seed, Iowa's Tony Ramos. Ramos, the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the nation, defeated Mendoza by tech fall (22-6). In the consolation bracket, Mendoza was pinned by Matt Fields of Purdue to end his entry in the meet.

Dalton Kelley (R-So., Alamosa, Colo., Alamosa HS) also competed at 141 where he lost to Adam Krop of Princeton 7-4 in the second round. In his first match of the consolation bracket, Kelley defeated Stanford's Alex Manley 5-0. Kelley lost 5-2 to Northwestern's Pat Greco in his final match of the tournament.

Justin Durham (R-Sr., Shingle Springs, Calif., Ponderosa HS) moved up to 141 for the Midlands and he won his opening round match, 6-5 over Wisconsin's Tom Gleen.  Durham was pinned by the sixth seed, Zach Neibert of Virginia Tech in the second round. In the wrestlebacks, Durham was pinned by Clarion's Tyler Bedlyon at the 1:30 mark of their match.

Anthony Box (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) lost by tech fall to Princeton's Daniel Kolodzik in the first round of the 157-pound bracket. In the wrestlebacks, Box dropped a 9-7 decision to Wisconsin's Shawn Perry.

AC Brown (Fr., Oakdale, Calif., Oakdale HS) faced the 10th seed, Virginia Tech's Nick Vetterlein in the opening round at 197. Vetterlein defeated Brown 12-4.  In the consolation bracket, Brown lost 9-3 to Kadeem Samuels of Lehigh.

Frank Lomas (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) who was scheduled to compete at 133 pounds, was forced out due after a pair of medical forfeits.
