BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s women’s golf team will kick off its spring season this week with the annual Battle at the Rock tournament hosted by UC Riverside. The Roadrunners and the rest of the 15-team field will play 54 holes of golf, Feb. 13-14, at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif.

“We are looking forward to returning to the Battle at the Rock for the third straight year,” said Meghan Thomason, Director of Golf for CSUB. “Oak Quarry is a fantastic golf course and a great challenge for our student-athletes. The field is very strong this year and we are looking forward to competing against teams we don’t normally see during the season.”

Thomason went on to highlight her five traveling ‘Runners for this week’s competition: “Tori has played some very solid golf this season and we are looking forward to her continuing to lead us. Macey worked extremely hard over the break and it is showing up in her qualifying scores. Ariel, Julia, and Chandler all have experience on this golf course, which is a huge advantage for us.”

At last year’s Battle at the Rock, CSUB placed fifth out of eight teams behind Chandler Bullman’s three-round score of 239 (+23). As a team, the ‘Runners finished the tournament with a final-round score of 315 (+27), third-best in CSUB’s history.

Junior Tori Peers will lead the way into Riverside as she has all year. The native of Grand Island, Neb. paced the ‘Runners during the fall season with an average of 77.50 strokes per round. Fellow juniors Ariel Lee and Julia Stewart will join Peers this weekend.

Bullman, a senior, and fellow Bakersfield native and freshman Macey Mills round out CSUB’s traveling squad for Battle at the Rock.

The student-athletes are scheduled to play 36 holes of golf on Monday, Feb. 13, with a final round planned for Tuesday. Live stats will be available for the tournament via Full results and a recap will be posted here on at the end of each day of competition.
