LOS ANGELES – CSU Bakersfield’s diving teams wrapped up the Trojan Diving Invitational hosted by Southern California on Sunday afternoon. Seniors Tyler Greenwald and Carlee Burks led the way again while sophomore Hannah Chernabaeff excelled on the platform.

“For our first and only platform competition before Conference, I thought we did a good job and gained valuable experience on the event,” said Ben Herboth, CSUB’s Diving Coach. “The girls gained a good deal of confidence on their lists and performed well. Tyler continued to be consistent today turning in another Top 5 finish. This meet illuminated his strong areas and where we need more work, but served as a good building block for the rest of the season.”

Greenwald, a senior, finished the preliminary round of the 3-meter board in seventh with a six-dive score of 227.75. The native of Henderson, Nev. went on to improve two places to fifth by scoring 263.25 points in the finals for a two-round total of 491.00.

Burks finished 13th in the prelims of the platform with a score of 182.30, just missing out on qualifying for the finals by one spot. Chernabaeff, a sophomore from Bakersfield, was one place behind Burks at 171.85, increasing her previous best in the event by 25 points. Senior Melissa Gore was third for the ‘Runners and 16th overall with 169.20 points.

The ‘Runner divers will rejoin their swimming teammates next week for the biggest meet of the year thus far. CSUB will return to the Los Angeles area for the annual A3 Performance Invitational, touted as one of the most competitive collegiate meets on the West Coast. The ‘Runners will take on top talent, Nov. 17-19, in Monterey Park, Calif. in the meet hosted by UC San Diego.
