BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are prepared to host Cal Baptist in CSU Bakersfield’s home opener at the Hillman Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“Cal Baptist is one of the toughest teams in NCAA DII,” said Chris Hansen, CSUB’s Director of Swimming. “This is not at all going to be an easy meet for us. Two things would help us win: we swim and dive great and we get the support we give to this campus. We need people to come out and cheer us on.”

Hansen’s swim and dive squads have the most vocal present at CSUB athletic events and certainly could use the support against a strong CBU squad on Saturday. The Lancers’ men finished 12th at the DII National Championships last season while the women placed 13th.

For the ‘Runner women, leading the way against the Lancers will be seniors Paola Hernandez and Carlee Burks. Hernandez has dominated each of her first two meets of the season with several individual wins and looks to continue that success at home. Burks, a CSUB record holder, is diving well again this season and will climb the boards at Hillman Aquatic Center.

Bakersfield’s men will be led by junior Lovre Soric and sophomore Jake Chir. After winning last week’s Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week, Chir rides great momentum into Saturday’s meet against Cal Baptist. Soric brings a powerful presence to every meet and is expected to pace the 'Runners in multiple races.

The dual is scheduled for a noon start on CSUB’s campus. Parking for athletics is, as always, free for fans, while admission for 'Runner swim and dive events is also complimentary.
