BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women’s swimming and diving team opened the 2016-17 season last weekend and the Roadrunner men are eager to join the ladies for their season opener. The two teams are headed south this weekend for the Malibu Invitational, Oct. 14-15, hosted by Pepperdine.

Chris Hansen, Director of Swimming at CSUB, is looking forward to an improved season for his men’s squad: “The men are ready to prove they are a much better team than last year. Lovre Soric, Mario Vasquez, and Joe Cobarrubias will continue to score big points as always, but the story here is how mature and impressive the sophomore class looks. They were all a little timid last year, but have come to Bakersfield hungry and ready. As for the Malibu Invite, we are going to be swimming a lot different events so we can start preparing for our dual meet lineups and relay spots.”

Hansen went on to preview his women’s team meet: “Like the men, the women will also see some off events so we can decide on personal dual meet events and relay spots. We are hoping to see some more of the freshmen challenge for these spots and we need to see our sophomores step up like their male counterparts. Seniors Carlee Burks, Melissa Gore, Dylana Milobar, and Paola Hernandez will dominate this meet in their events.”

The Malibu Invitational will feature a total of 10 teams including CSUB, Pepperdine, and Loyola Marymount. The meet will begin with diving and distance on Friday afternoon while middle distance and sprinting events will be competed on Saturday.

The meet will be live streamed on Pepperdine’s Wavecasts and live results may be available on the Meet Mobile app. Check back here at for a full recap from the Malibu Invitational after each day of competition.
