STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman Dominick Hoover improved after each round of play at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and posted a final-round score of even par to pace the Roadrunner men’s golf team. Hoover’s 71 on Saturday was CSUB’s best single-round score of the tournament and helped the native of Monterey, Calif. lead the ‘Runners on the tournament with a 54-hole score of 220.

“We finished 29 strokes better at this tournament as a team compared to last year and also finished with our lowest team round for the fall season,” said Meggan Bunker, CSUB’s head coach. “The team is moving in the right direction, yet, we still have a lot of room for improvement.”

Bunker went on to comment on her team’s struggles on the final third of the course: “The last few rounds, we range around four-over-par as a team through 12 or 13 holes. We have to finish stronger to start moving up the leaderboard. We have learned a lot this fall season, improving every tournament, but we are looking forward to the spring season and getting stronger individually over the break.”

Hoover’s third-round 71 improved the freshman’s best single-round score of the season by two strokes. After shooting 76, 73, and 71, Hoover’s 220 (+7) is the second-best 54-hole individual score of the season for CSUB. Bakersfield’s leader tied for 41st overall in the 78-man field.

Junior Nathan Green shot 74 in each of the three rounds in Stockton to finish second for the ‘Runners with a total score of 222. Senior Izzad Ibrahim’s 78 on Saturday dropped him to third for the ‘Runners at 225.

Freshman Warren Miller posted the third-best score of the day (76) and fourth-best of the tournament (227) for the ‘Runners. Junior Garry Cai rebounded from a tough score on Friday to post an 82 on Saturday, his second-best of the season.

As a squad, CSUB posted a score of 299 (+15) to close the tournament on Saturday. The ‘Runners finished at 894 (+42) for the week, CSUB’s second-best 54-hole team score of the year. CSUB finished last of 13 teams while BYU claimed the team crown at 834. The Cougars’ Patrick Fishburn earned the individual title with a 54-hole score of 204.

CSUB’s men’s golf team has completed competition for the fall season and will return to the links Jan. 30-31 for the Folino Invitational at the Industry Hills Golf Course.
