BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s softball team is preparing for its first Western Athletic Conference series of the season coming up this weekend. The Roadrunners will play a home series Friday, Mar. 31 and Saturday, Apr.1 against UMKC at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

“We are excited to open the WAC conference up. UMKC is always tough and comes to play, especially in conference”, stated CSUB head coach Crissy Buck-Ziegler.

The ‘Runners have played UMKC a total of 11 times in their overall team history. The ‘Roos took the win in seven of 11 of those games; this includes all three games in the regular season in Kansas City last year. CSUB took the final win of the season series, beating the ‘Roos in the first game of the WAC tournament last May.

For the doubleheader on Saturday, CSUB has invited alumni of the NCAA Division II National Champions teams from 1988, 1989, and 1990. These women accomplished a remarkable feat, winning three national championships in a row, and the CSUB softball program wants to honor them on Saturday. CSUB will be recognizing the alumni players and a few of the players will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game.

“We encourage all alumni to come join us for this celebration,” said Buck-Ziegler. “These women have started our strong tradition of CSUB softball and we would like to honor them this weekend.”

The first game of the series will take place Friday at 2 p.m. and the doubleheader on Saturday will start at 1 p.m. The alumni festivities will take place before the start of the second game on Saturday. Tickets are available at the gate or online at Live stats will be available for each game of the series.
