BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield’s softball team is prepared to open its home schedule this week as CSUB will welcome Cal State Fullerton to the Roadrunner Softball Complex on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Roadrunners and Titans are scheduled to play a doubleheader with first pitch of the home slate scheduled for noon.
The ‘Runners are coming off of a half rained out weekend in Long Beach, Calif. CSUB’s first two games had to be cancelled and the ‘Runners fell in a pair of games to Long Beach State and No. 15/16 Utah on Sunday. While the CSUB offense struggled to get going in Southern California, the ‘Runner starting pitchers, sophomore Alley Stockton and junior Summer Evans, fared well against two tough opponents.
On the season, CSUB outfielders Julea Cavazos (.333) and Josie Flores (.316) lead the ‘Runners in batting average while Cavazos has a team-high four RBI. Evans and junior Lyndsay Klimenko have each earned three starts while the former has a team-best ERA of 4.48.
Cal State Fullerton enters the week with a record of 4-5. The Titans traveled to Vallarta, Mexico last week for the Puerto Vallarta Challenge and came away with three wins in five games. Kelsey Kessler leads the Titans with a 1.84 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched while Alexis Gonzales has a team-high .348 batting average.
Game One of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon at the Roadrunner Softball Complex on Tuesday. The second game of the day will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
