LAS VEGAS, Nev. – CSU Bakersfield’s softball team continued play at the Sporto Kick Off Classic hosted by UNLV on Saturday, but the Roadrunners were only able to get one of two games in due to rain. CSUB fell in its one game of the day to Indiana State, 11-4.

With senior Lyndsay Klimenko earning the start in the circle, Indiana State jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brook Mann’s double drove in the pair of runs, but Klimenko settled down nicely over the next few innings, holding the Sycamores scoreless until the fourth inning.

The ‘Runners responded with all four of their runs in the bottom of the second inning. The action got started with a one-out double by Nicole Curry. Junior transfer Megan Marcy got her first hit as a ‘Runner, bringing Curry home from third with an infield single and making the score 2-1.

A single by Josie Flores and a walk for Kaylynn Burt set up a bases-loaded opportunity for Julea Cavazos. The junior outfielder delivered an RBI single to tie the game up at 2-2. Freshman Cydney Curran’s single to the right center gap plated two more ‘Runners as CSUB went ahead 4-2.

The Sycamores answered back with a run in the top of the fourth to cut the ‘Runner lead to 4-3. In the top of the fifth, Indiana State exploded for seven runs on four hits and one error to take a 10-4 lead. A final run would be scored in the top of the seventh to give the Sycamores the 11-4 lead by which they would defeat the ‘Runners.

Curry went 2-for-4 in the game while sophomore Nadia Amezcua continued hitting well, going 2-for-2 from the plate while walking in her third plate appearance. Marcy, Cavazos, and Curran all had RBI in the game for CSUB with Curran recording a pair.

Klimenko took the loss after pitching 3.1 innings and giving up three runs, all earned. Alley Stockton pitched an inning in relief before Summer Evans took over for the final 2.2 innings. Evans pitched well, giving up just one run on one hit and two walks.
