BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield women’s basketball team returns to the Icardo Center for the first time in Western Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of games.

Action gets underway on Thursday when UT Rio Grande Valley comes to Bakersfield. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network. UTRGV is 12-6, 2-0 in WAC play. Preseason Conference of the Year, Shawnte’ Goff, is second in the WAC in scoring at 15.1 points per game.

The Vaqueros lead the conference in field goal defense (.372), three-point defense (.268), blocked shots (5.1) and steals (11.1). The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 9-5.

In a defensive struggle, Seattle University defeated CSUB 54-47 in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams last Saturday afternoon. CSUB would shoot 32.1% (17-of-53) for the game while Seattle U wasn’t much better at 34.6% (17-of-52). The free throw line was the difference as CSUB missed eight of 18 attempts from the charity stripe while SU was 12-of-14 from the line. Erika Williams led the ‘Runners against the Redhawks with 11 points.
