BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team looks to make it three in a row Wednesday night when the Roadrunners (3-6) host UC Riverside. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
The Highlanders have won two in a row over a pair of WAC opponents (Grand Canyon, 77-64, 11/29/16 and Seattle U, 58-54, 12/10/16) to improve to 3-3 on the year.
Rejane Verin leads the team in scoring (16.3), rebounding (7.5), assists (27), and blocks (7). She is shooting .476 (40-84) from the field. UC Riverside defeated CSUB 81-61 last season in Riverside to take a 7-3 all-time series lead.
CSUB won a pair of games last week. The ‘Runners defeated Stanislaus State 78-51 last Wednesday before handing Fresno Pacific an 84-61 defeat last Saturday. Both games were played in the Icardo Center. Brittany Sims averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds last week. She shot 54.2 from the field and blocked five shots.
The 27 points by the ‘Runners in the first quarter against Stanislaus State Dec. 6 were the most by the program in a 10-minute quarter since women’s basketball went to the format in 2015.
The Roadrunners again scored 27 in a quarter when CSUB took a 27-11 after one during the Dec. 10 game against Fresno Pacific. The previous best for the Roadrunners in a quarter was 25, which was posted on two previous occasions.
