BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield returns to Hardt Field for the final time in April Tuesday night when CSUB hosts Cal Poly. Coverage begins on the Roadrunner Sports Network via at 6 p.m. CSUB will play its final seven games this month on the road and will not return home until May 2 against UC Irvine.

Cal Poly took 2-of-3 from UC Davis over the weekend to improve to 15-19 on the season. Michael Sanderson (.361) leads the team in hitting. Alex McKenna is hitting .360 with two home runs and 19 RBI’s. Nick Meyer has a team high 23 RBI’s.

Lefty Kyle Smith (0-2) is scheduled to start for the Mustangs. Garrett Nimmo (1-2) is scheduled to start for the Roadrunners. Cal Poly took a 17-6 all-time series lead against CSUB when the Mustangs defeated the Roadrunners 9-7 Mar. 7 in San Luis Obispo.

CSUB looks to extend its winning streak to six after sweeping Utah Valley last weekend. For the first time since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2013, CSU Bakersfield has swept the weekly baseball honors as Ryan Grotjohn and Max Carter have been named WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 10-16.

Grotjohn played a key role in CSUB’s undefeated week. He had multiple hits in every game, including 4-for-4 in Friday’s 9-5 win over Utah Valley. On the week, he was 10-for-16 at the plate, slugging .812 with an .824 on-base percentage. This is the second time this season Grotjohn has earned Hitter of the Week honors.

Carter carried a perfect game two outs into the sixth inning before giving up a pair of singles in Thursday’s 10-0 win over Utah Valley. He struck out six with no walks as he earned the complete game shutout in the run-rule shortened victory.

Grotjohn begins the week of Apr. 17; second in Division I in batting (.452), third in hits per game (1.74), 14th in on-base percentage (.504), 30th in hits (54), 90th in toughest to strike out (10.9). He is tied with David Metzgar for 61st in triples (4), 76th in triples per game (.1), and 142nd in runs per game (0.94).

Entering this week, Carter has not allowed a run in his last 17.2 innings of work and has not walked a batter in his last 22.2 innings pitched dating back to Mar. 31.

Carter is ranked in several NCAA categories both as a pitcher and as a hitter. Carter is 16th in victories, 18th in complete games (2), 41st in WHIP (0.95), 92nd in earned run average (2.34), 89th in walks per nine innings (1.72), 92nd in hits per nine innings (9.87), 142nd in strikeout-to-ratio (4.0), and 155th in hitting (.357).
