BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Coming off a victory over nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara Tuesday night, CSU Bakersfield opens a four-game baseball series against the University of Portland Thursday afternoon.
The series begins at 2 p.m. Thursday. CSUB and Portland meet in a doubleheader Friday that begins at 2 p.m. The opener will be streamed on the Roadrunner Sports Network via Youtube.com while the nightcap will be broadcasted on ESPN 98.1 FM/1230 AM. The second game will begin at approximately 6 p.m. with Corey Costelloe’s pre-game show starting around 5:45 p.m. The series concludes Saturday at 12 p.m. The entire series is part of the CSUB homecoming activities this week.
The Roadrunners defeated UC Santa Barbara 2-1 Tuesday night. Isaiah Moten and Naithen Dewsnap combined on a four-hitter. Moten struck out a career high nine in 7.1 innings. He walked three and gave up three hits. Dewsnap earned the save. He struck out two in 1.2 innings. Andrew Penner led CSUB by going 2-for-4 with a walk.
Portland went 1-2 on opening weekend at CSUN. The Pilots struggled at the plate in Northridge, hitting .156 for the series against the Matadors. Portland was shutout in both of their losses. UOP’s top hitter for the weekend was Cody Kewen (3-10, .300). Portland lead the all-time series against the Roadrunners 4-3.
