BELLEVUE, Wash.-Bakersfield pitchers Austin Davis (R-So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) and Hayden Carter (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Vista HS) combined on a four-hitter as the Roadrunners (24-31, 15-12 WAC) ended the regular season by defeating Seattle U (25-25, 13-11WAC) 10-0 Saturday afternoon.
Davis started, going the first four innings, allowing two hits, and facing two over the minimum before giving way to Carter. Carter, pitched five innings, gave up hits, and struck out three. Carter faced three above the minimum during his stint. Davis was awarded the victory as it was a controlled start for the 6-5 lefty.
The first three Bakersfield players of the game reached base, but the Roadrunners could only come away with one run in the top of the first. The 'Runners took advantage of two Seattle U errors in the second to score four times. Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) capped off the scoring when he extended his hitting streak to 19 with an RBI single.
Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) doubled in Jones (who had singled) in the top of the ninth for CSUB's eighth run. Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) drove in Williams with two outs with a single to center.
Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) tallied two hits and three runs scored. Jones, Chance Gusbeth (So., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS), Carter, and Ross Hough (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College) each charted two hits. All nine position players for Bakersfield recorded at least one hit.
The Roadrunners will be the No. 4 seed in the WAC Tournament which begins next Wednesday at Cubs Park in Mesa, Ariz. Bakersfield will matchup again against Seattle U as the Redhawks will get the No. 5 seed for the tournament. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (PDT).
