BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Bakersfield defeated Milwaukee 8-4 in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Hardt Field.
Junior transfer Logan Trowbridge (Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) drove in Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) in the bottom of the first for the inaugural Bakersfield run of the 2014 campaign.
The Roadrunners scored four in the bottom of the second as the ‘Runners got back-to-back RBI doubles from Sanay and David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) as well as a two-RBI double from Trowbridge. Bakersfield added one in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Milwaukee rallied and scored four in the top of the eighth.
Five CSUB pitchers combined on a five-hitter with Taylor Aikenhead (Sr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College) earning the win. The 'Runner hurlers struck out 10 on the day with Aikenhead leading the way with five. Sanay went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Trowbridge was 3-of-4 with three RBI’s while Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) was 2-of-5.
The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
