BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—A night after being named as a quarterfinalist for National Shortstop of the Year, Tyler Shryock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) went 3-for-4 to lead CSU Bakersfield (27-13, 11-3 WAC) past Dallas Baptist (20-19, 7-7 WAC) 10-4 Saturday night.
Shyrock added two runs scored and a walk. Kevin Younger (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s. Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and Chance Gusbeth (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) both posted two hits. Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) scored three runs.
Scott Brattvet (Sr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Santa AnaCollege) earned his seventh victory of the year (7-1). Brattvet pitched the first seven innings, allowing six hits and striking out three. Hayden Carter (So., San Diego, Calif., Vista HS) pitched the final two innings, giving up one hit and striking out two For Dallas Baptist, Michael Miller and Chane Lynch both had two hits. Lynch hit his fourth home run of the year to lead off the top of the fourth inning.
The victory clinches the fifth straight WAC series for Bakersfield. The 'Runners have a one-game lead over UT Arlington in the league standings after the Mavericks split a doubleheader at Seattle University Saturday.
The series between the Patriots and the Roadrunners concludes Sunday at 12 p.m.
