BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— Tyler Shryock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) recorded three RBI’s to lead CSU Bakersfield (22-13, 7-3 WAC) past UTSA (19-14, 4-5 WAC) Saturday night.
With UTSA leading 1-0 after 1 1/2, CSUB scored four times in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Bakersfield added one more in the sixth and five over the seventh and eighth innings.
With a single in the second, Shryock has now reached base in 27 consecutive games, the second longest such streak in school history. Jeremy Rodriguez reached base in 35 straight games during the 2010 season. Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College), Kevin Younger (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS), and Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) all posted two hits. Younger and Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) had two RBI’s. Hein scored twice.
CSUB pitchers Scott Brattvet (Sr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Santa Ana College) and Taylor Aikenhead (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) combined on a five-hitter. Brattvet struck out six over the first 7 2/3’s before giving way to Aikenhead. The lone UTSA run was unearned.
The series between the only two Division I baseball programs with the nickname “Roadrunners” concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
