ARLINGTON, Texas— Dylan Christensen’s  (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) RBI single in the top of the eighth plated Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) to give CSU Bakersfield a 3-2 victory over UT Arlington in WAC baseball action Friday night.

Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his Bakersfield (20-10, 5-2 WAC) school record hitting streak to 21 with an RBI single in the top of the first. Brockmeyer also charted an RBI in the first for 2-0 CSUB lead.

Greg McCall tied the game for the Mavericks (15-13, 5-2 WAC) with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. returned the lead to CSUB with an RBI single in the top of the seventh which plated Brockmeyer.

Jeff McKenzie (Sr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College) picked two baserunners off to increase his total to seven on the year. He went the first seven before giving way to Taylor Aikenhead (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) in the eighth. The Mavericks put the tying run on in eighth but Aikenhead got Justin Copeland to ground into a double play to end the inning.

UTA again put the tying run on in the ninth when Brandon Lawrence singled to open the inning. Darien McLemore’s sac bunt moved Lawrence to second but Aikenhead retired the next two batters for his second save and McKenzie’s seventh victory of the year.

Jones ended the night 2-for-3. He is hitting .432 during his hitting streak. It was his sac bunt in the eighth that put Brockmeyer into scoring position for Christensen. UTA outhit the Roadrunners 11-6 on the night.

The series continues Saturday with an 12 p.m. (PDT) start in Arlington.
