NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--Kevin Younger (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) tallied three hits as CSU Bakersfield defeated Cal State Northridge 5-3 Tuesday afternoon.

Bakersfield scored three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh. The Matadors rallied with three runs in the eighth. Northridge had the tying run on with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Bakersfield closer Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Saddleback College) got Michael Livingston to ground out to end the game.

Younger was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.Christensen, who started the game at first for the Roadrunners, was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Freshman Mylz Jones (Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his hitting streak to 12 with a double in the fifth that drove in a run. Tyler Shryock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) had his 11-game hitting streak ended as he was 0-3.

Hayden Carter (So., San Diego, Calif., Vista HS) earned the win with 3.1 innings of relief of starter Taylor Aikenhead (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College). The trio of Bakersfield pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

The Roadrunners open its inaugural season in the WAC Friday when Bakersfield travels to Sacramento State for a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
