BAKERSFIELD, Calif—Three CSU Bakersfield pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Roadrunners (4-3) defeated Hofstra (2-6) 5-1 in Sunday’s baseball series finale.

Tyler Shryock’s (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) RBI double broke the seal for CSUB in the bottom of the first. Garrett Pierce (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) added an RBI single later in the inning for the ‘Runners.

A pair of throwing errors by CSUB pitcher Jonathan Montoya (R-Sr., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills) on pick off attempts in the top of the second led to an unearned Hofstra run. The Roadrunners took advantage of a Pride error in the bottom of the fifth for CSUB’s third run.

Hofstra put runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the sixth, but Montoya got Austin Nyman to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the inning. Pierce charted his third hit of the day, a double to left center to plate Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) in the bottom of the seventh for an RBI. CSUB also added an unearned run in the frame.

Montoya earned his first victory back from 2012 Tommy John Surgery. He went the first six, giving up two hits. Montoya gave way to James Barragan (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) who allowed one hit over the seventh and eighth innings. Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College), who also recorded three hits, was the final CSUB pitcher of the day, recording a scoreless ninth.
