SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.,- CSU Bakersfield finally got on the scoreboard first, putting up two runs in the first inning and three more in the third as the Roadrunners avoided a weekend sweep, defeating Cal Poly 6-4 Sunday at Baggett Stadium.

The 'Runners (20-25) scored in the first inning following an Andrew Letourneau (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) double to lead off the game. He would score later in the inning on Kevin Younger (Jr., Bakersfield Calif., Liberty HS) single and a fielding error on Cal Poly left fielder Matt Russell. Tyler Shryock (So., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) would follow with an RBI single to give the 'Runners a 2-0 lead.

That lead was short lived as Cal Poly (29-20) scored three in the bottom of the second inning but the Roadrunners once again took the lead in the top of the third scoring three runs following extra base hits from Younger and J.P. Maestas (Jr., Nipomo, Calif, Allan Hancock CC), it was Maestas' second RBI double of the series for the Central Coast native.

The 'Runners would make the lead 7-3 scoring another in the top of the seventh on a squeeze bunt from Letourneau that scored Jordie Hein (Fr., Scottsdale Ariz., Chapparal HS). Cal Poly however would match that run in the bottom half of the inning with a Denver Chavez solo HR with one out to conclude the scoring for the game as the 'Runners held the Mustangs scoreless through the final two frames.

Jeff McKenzie (Jr., Sacramento, Calif., San Joaquin Delta CC), recorded his fourth complete game of the season allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out five. He improves to 5-4 on the season.

The win snaps a five-game losing streak for CSUB who will look for a series split with the Mustangs on Tuesday when the four-game series concludes in Bakersfield. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M. at Hardt Field.
