BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, CSU Bakersfield exploded for six runs to go onto a 7-3 victory over Kansas State Sunday afternoon at Hardt Field.

Kevin Younger (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) and Garrett Pierce (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) both went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Shryock (So., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) charted two RBI’s. DC Legg (R-Sr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) and Dylan Christensen (Jr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) also added RBI’s.

Scott Brattvet (Jr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Santa Ana College) and Spenser Messermore (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif., Alemany HS) scattered nine Wildcats’ hits. Brattvet went six striking out five. Messmore earned the three-inning save, striking out two. K-State added runs in the sixth and ninth, with only two of the runs being earned. Mike Kindel and Jared King both posted two hits.

““That was the first start of (Brattvet’s) life,” said CSUB head coach Bill Kernen. “Scott was a bullpen guy before and so to come out pitch against a Big 12 team in a Division I game and do that well is a really be accomplishment. We are really proud of him. When I watched him in junior college and saw him coming out of the bullpen, there was just something about his style that I thought would work well as a starting pitcher. He is a big kid, he’s got a fastball, agood slider. I approached him about that as an option and I think that is one of the reasons he came here.”

The series which is now tied 1-1, concludes Monday at 2 p.m.
