BAKERSFIELD, Calif. —  Brandon Boren collected his second walk-off hit in a Roadrunner uniform Sunday morning, knocking an RBI-single down the right field to give the CSUB baseball team a 7-6 win over Central Michigan.

The game began Saturday, but was suspended in the bottom of the seventh due to darkness. Later in the day, the Roadrunners fell 13-0 to the Cal Golden Bears to wrap up the weekend’s action. With the split, the Roadrunners move to 5-2 on the season.

Bakersfield took an early 2-0 lead against the Chippewas as a Martin Medina double sent both Brandon Boren and Kyle Richardson across home plate. Central Michigan rallied with one run in the second and one in the third to tie the game.

The Roadrunners added a solo run in the fourth on an unearned run by Jason Kudlock, but Central Michigan rallied for three runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. Bakersfield got one back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-single by Stuart Smith, making it 5-4 Central Michigan.

Down 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Joey Mills beat out a two-out single to short, bringing up Boren who smacked an RBI-double to right-center before play was suspended due to darkness.

The game resumed Sunday morning, and Boren played hero once again with the game-winning hit in the ninth. Kudlock opened the inning with a single to second and pinch hitter Kevin Younger drew a walk. Both runners advanced a base on a balk before JJ Henry sent the tying run across the plate with a ground out to the shortstop.

With two-outs, Boren poked the 1-1 offering down the right-field line to send Younger home for the walk-off win.

Boren finished 4-for-5 in the game, with one run and two RBIs. Kudlock was 3-for-5 while Martin Medina and Richardson each had two hits.

Jonathan Montoya struggled in his second start of the season, giving up four hits and two walks for four runs in four innings. Matt Reyes pitched three innings of relief Saturday and Martin Medina earned the win when the game resumed Sunday morning. Medina struck out two and did not allow a hit in the final two innings.

Against the Golden Bears, the Roadrunners struggled offensively, collecting just five hits to Cal’s 19. Misplays in the field were also costly as CSUB committed six errors, five in the first three innings of play.

Austin Booker, Danny Oh and Tony Renda had three hits apiece for the Golden Bears who had a six-run third inning and a four-run fifth inning.

Bakersfield starter Mike McCarthy (1-1) lasted just 2.1 innings, giving up nine hits for eight earned runs. Sam Jones also struggled, giving up eight hits for five runs in 2.2 innings. Brandon Van Dam and Erik Draxton finished things off by combining for four innings of scoreless relief.

The Roadrunners travel for the first time this season when they take the short trip up the 99 to face Fresno State at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday. They return home Friday to begin a three-game series against Northern Illinois.
