Volunteer Assistant Coach
Anthony Barone is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach at CSU Bakersfield.
Barone came to Bakersfield after spending seven years as the head coach at Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College where he led the Jayhawks to a 207 victories and a 101-62 regional record. Barone was named NJCAA Region 3 Coach of the Year in 2008 as Jamestown qualified for five consecutive NJCAA Regional Tournaments. Barone’s Jamestown teams defeated 11 nationall ranked opponentus during his tenure. He coached 33 All-Conference, 15 All-Region, and one All-American while at the helm of the Jayhwaks.
Prior to becoming the head coach at JCC, Barone served as an assistant at the school for four years where in 2004 the team advanced to the NJCAA Division III World Series and made four straight NJCAA Regional Tournaments.
Barone played collegiately at Jamestown, where he was a two sport athlete also competing on the basketball team which won a regional title and competed in the NJCAA National Tournament. On the diamond Barone, a shortstop, was an all-conference player and was voted one of Jamestown Community College’s Top 50 Athletes.
After graduating from Jamestown, he transferred to Felician College in Lodi, N.J. Barone was named an Academic All American in 2001, and he is still in the record books in numerous categories, one of which is toughest to strike out, as he only struck out 14 times in over 260 at bats. He was also named All-Conference after his junior season when he hit .388 to finish fourth in the conference in Batting Average.
Barone is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Organizational Administration at CSUB. In the Summer of 2013, Barone will become the head coach of the Wellsville Nitros in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, a summer wood bat NCAA Sanctioned league.
Barone is married to his wife Susan, and has three children, Nathaniel, A.C., and Liliana.
