LOS ANGELES, Calif.---No. 13/24 UCLA (29-19) defeated CSU Bakersfield (27-21) Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

UCLA opened the first with RBI's from Beau Amaarl and Dean Espy to take a 2-0 lead. Espy made it 3-0 with his second home run of the year in the bottom of the third. A two-out Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) double in the top of the sixth scored Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) and Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS)  to make it 3-2.

UCLA starter Adam Plutko struck out 12 during his eight-inning stint. Medina reached on an error with one out in the ninth off of Bruins' closer Nick Cander Tuig. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) flew out to right for the second out. DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) struck out to end the game. The UCLA pitching staff combined on a four-hitter.

CSUB starter Jonathan Montoya (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS) took the loss. The 5-7 lefty struck out a career high 10 while walking two as he was credited with his seventh complete game of the year.

CSUB opens a three-game split series with No. 21 Fresno State Friday night in Fresno. The series continues Saturday and Sunday at Hardt Field. Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with Sunday's play getting underway at 1 p.m.
