LOS ANGELES, Calif.---Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood, Calif., Univ. of Redlands) tossed a complete game two-hitter as CSU Bakersfield (27-19) defeated No. 13/24 UCLA (27-19) 5-1 Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The 6-3 righthander struck out seven and walked only one batter.

RBI's from Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) in the first broke the seal for the Roadrunners.  

Freshman shortstop Tyler Shryock (Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) hit his first career home run to open the second inning for a 3-0 CSUB advantage. Jeremey Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS) drove in the first of his two runs later in third. Rodriguez made it 5-0 with an RBI single in the seventh.

Mark Navarro got the Bruins on the board in the eighth with a two-out double that plated Chris Giovinazzo.

Rodriguez went 3-for-3 on the night while Shryock added a double for a total of two hits. Shryock scored two runs. Ryan McIntyre (Jr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) had two hits in the leadoff spot.
